Up until 2019 a fine old morus nigra stood on the lawn behind a block of flats next to St Barnabas church (see photo). A local resident, Jim Bell, informed us in February 2019 that the tree has been felled and totally grubbed out, apparently because its roots were undermining the flats' foundations. There was apparently no TPO on the tree. [ed: The 1890s OS map shows where the tree originally stood in relation to its surroundigs, before the flats were built. It will be 150 years at least before a tree like this could grow on the site, even if planted now.]
